National War Dogs Monument

"YOU WERE THERE"
DEDICATED TO ALL DOG HANDLERS
WHO SERVED IN SOUTEAST ASIA
DURING THE VIETNAM WAR
BY
SGT. MIKE MONGER
SENTRY DOG HANDLER
SENTRY DOG PISTOL 540M
635TH SPS SENTRY DOG SECTION
U-TAPAO AFB THAILAND
JULY 69 TO JULY 70

YOU WERE THERE TO POINT OUT LAND MINES
YOU WERE THERE TO TRACK DOWN MEN
YOU WERE THERE TO GUARD SOME FENCE LINE
YOU WERE THERE AND MY BEST FRIEND
YOU WERE THERE DOWN IN SOME TUNNEL
YOU WERE THERE OUT ON SOME POST
YOU WERE THERE OUT ON SOME BLOOD TRAIL
YOU WERE THERE BUT COULD NOT BOAST
YOU WERE THERE WHEN I WAS LONELY
YOU WERE THERE WHEN I WAS SAD
YOU WERE THERE AS MY ONE AND ONLY
YOU WERE THERE AND I'M SO GLAD
YOU WERE THERE AS MORTARS POUNDED
YOU WERE THERE UNDER FLARE FILLED SKIES
YOU WERE THERE WHEN GUNFIRE SOUNDED
YOU WERE THERE WHEN BRAVE MEN DIED
YOU WERE THERE WHEN I WAS SO FEARFUL
YOU WERE THERE EACH TIME I CRIED
YOU WERE THERE WHEN I WAS WITH ANGER FULL
YOU WERE THERE TO WHICH I'LL TESTIFY
BUT NOW YOU'RE GONE AND HOW I MISS YOU
I'VE GRIEVED FOR YOU SOME THIRTY YEARS
I WROTE THIS SONG TO TELL ABOUT YOU
I SING THIS SONG AND FIGHT BACK TEARS

Hi Ron,

You're missing the first War Dog Memorial, from WWI, which stands in Hartsdale Pet Cemetary in NY:
